Unhappy PSG stars 'feel the squad is WEAKER after recent transfer business'

Paris Saint-Germain players have reportedly questioned the club's summer transfer business – with some believing that recent dealings have weakened the side.

PSG were beaten 1-0 at home by Bayern Munich in Tuesday's Champions League round of 16 first-leg clash, leaving their tournament hopes balanced on a knife edge ahead of their trip to Germany next week.

Now it is being reported that senior players at the Ligue 1 leaders are confused by PSG's business in the transfer market and feel certain players shouldn't have been let go, according to L'Equipe.

PSG's dressing room has been scrutinised throughout the season with rumours of unrest amongst team-mate's and Brazilian superstar Neymar recently confirming reports that he had clashed with sporting director Luis Campos.

The French newspaper revealed that the arrivals of Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler confused some players that believe summer departures Leandro Paredes, Idrissa Gueye, or Julian Draxler were better suited to the team.

Performances of new arrivals have raised doubts within the squad about the club's transfer strategy since Christophe Galtier replaced Mauricio Pochettino as manager.

There is also reported bewilderment at the decision to make Hugo Ekitike's move to the Parisians permanent in the summer given the 20-year-old attacking talent's questionable form.

Ekitike has scored just three goals in 16 league outings and some within the dressing room apparently feel that academy product Arnaud Kalimuendo was a more suited option prior to him being allowed to leave to join Rennes.

There is also suggested frustration with club director Campos and his failure to bring in a new star defender during the pre-season transfer window.

The man tasked with transfers has been criticised by both Neymar and Marquinhos in recent weeks as evidence of division within the club became ever more apparent.

Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar will make the switch to leave Italy and move to France at the end of the season but PSG will have to be coy with their spending given the Financial Fair Play restrictions imposed on them.

PSG had to pay an £8.9m fine in September for breaking UEFA financial rules related to overspending during the summer of the 2021-22 season when Lionel Messi arrived at the Parc des Princes.

The club will have to meet certain financial targets they agreed to with UEFA in a settlement deal over the next three to four years or face further and more serious sanctions.
