Goncalo Guedes scored as Valencia won 2-1 at home to Real Madrid in LaLiga, with Zinedine Zidane tasting defeat for the first time.
Match Report
Real Madrid lost for the first time since Zinedine Zidane's return, falling 2-1 at in-form Valencia in LaLiga.
Goncalo Guedes scored the opener at Mestalla on Wednesday, with Valencia moving within a point of the Champions League places after extending their unbeaten run to 17 games in all competitions.
Madrid, having needed a late Karim Benzema goal to beat bottom side Huesca last time out, underwhelmed again despite the return of star names including Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric.
Ezequiel Garay superbly converted a corner from Dani Parejo to double the lead, though Valencia missed out on a sixth straight clean sheet at home in the league due to Benzema's 93rd-minute header.

22' CHANCE! Kroos' shot saved
WELL GATHERED BY NETO! Madrid test Neto for the first time today, but it is a pretty routine save for the Valencia keeper. Kroos' half-volley from outside the box was on target but lacked the power to beat Neto.
35' GOAL! Valencia 1-0 Real Madrid (Guedes)
GOOOOOOOAAALLL!!! VALENCIA 1-0 MADRID! Guedes opens the scoring for Valencia with an impressive finish from just inside the box. Ramos backs off the winger and, with very little backlift, he places the ball into the bottom right of Navas' goal. The Madrid keeper got across but could not keep it out.
83' GOAL! Valencia 2-0 Real Madrid (Garay)
VALENCIA 2-0 MADRID! Garay's powerful header from a corner kills off the contest as Valencia open up a two-goal lead! The former Madrid defender gets above Casemiro and sends the ball flying past Navas, who can barely react in time.

That was a hard earned victory. The difference between the two teams was that Valencia were more clinical, they made runs into the box and penetrated our defense, even the midfielders had it hard. RM on the other hand were good. Great passing but lack of penetrating. Played well but lost still. We need new signings clearly. Good game Valencia, congrats on your win👏👏 guess we wouldn't be winning the final games huh?😴 nevertheless Hala MADRID

Zidane has been away from the team for more than half a season during which time Real Madrid as a team was almost dysfunctional, he is still shaping the team and weighing his options as to which positions need to be strengthened ,which aged and young players to ship out. I'm sure he's already started sending feelers and identifying the players to complete his desired team next season, his mission in the few games remaining is to steady the ship and so far he has won 2 matches out of 3 what else do you expect from him. He does not really have to prove anything to some of the disgruntled and dissatisfied Real Madrid fans, you all know what he is capable of, this is Real Madrid's season to forget it's not the right attitude to be ungrateful to everyone who comes in the dug out.

I think Zidane can only manage the experienced players and cannot develop the young talents. This is a real challenge for him now whether to depend on experienced but fatigued players or young and enthusiastic players. I think Solari was in right track by bringing in most of the young talents who can fit in the senior squad. But everybody blamed him for the poor result. But it was not the coach’s mistake in my view. The club is going through a transitional period and it is not only RM, look at Man-U how they have been struggling for some years to gain their previous status. I am sure, Even Barcelona will go through the same pain once Messi retires if they are not concerned about the probable situation in GOAT’s absence. So Zidane is not going to do any magic overnight and bring back real Real Madrid anytime soon.

Zidane, as excellent as he's a coach needs players. Real Madrid beyond bringing back Zidane needs to reinforce the team with players, else Zidane may be back to get a share of his sack from Perez.

Zidane needs to stop messing around with his team selection, he already knows who his best players are he should play them. Why bench Isco, he is the only real number 10 Madrid have. But tbh he can afford to experiment cos Madrid arent playing for anything and by default finish 2nd or 3rd in the 3 team league anyway.... I guess in that sense you can test your squad but still their fans are worse than ours when it comes to patience, If Zidand keeps experimenting they'll want him out soon.

1. valenciacf are unbeaten in their last 17 games in all competitions (W10 D7), the current best run of any side from the top five European leagues 2. LaLiga teams with the most goals conceded this season in all comps: Huesca: 61 goals in 32 games Sevilla: 60 in 52 REAL MADRID: 60 in 49 😢

This is why Solari benched most of these players and started to use more of the youth players but still we complain about that, actually this team overhauling before we begin the new season if not Madrid will go down the dream.

see the position of the previous years under zidane. it was flop. yes they won champions league but it doesn't mean that they r good form. if all the clubs r running for trophy other clubs me get hv died. football is not the only trophy but playing in good form. Real Madrid need good form not zidane
