Van Beijnen - son of De Jong's agent - leaves Barca B without playing a minute

Sometimes the best things come in packages. That's certainly how the agent of Frenkie De Jong would have felt after helping both the Dutch midfielder and his son secure moves to Spanish giants Barcelona last summer.

But while De Jong has nailed down a midfield berth in the first team, it hasn't been the same story for Mike van Beijnen, who has left Barcelona B having not played a single minute for the team.

Ali Dursun helped his client De Jong move to the Catalan outfit last January in a £65million deal from Ajax, and after the transfer went through in the summer, he managed to get his son van Beijnen a two-year contract with their B team.

The 20-year-old full back arrived on a free transfer having previously played for NAC Breda in the Eredivisie, incredibly giving him a buyout clause of £89m despite only playing for the Dutch team's Under-21 side nine times last season.

The move created huge controversy, with many fans scratching their heads over why the club had slapped such a massive fee on a such an obscure player.

And now van Beijnen has seen his career path head in a very different direction to that of De Jong, who he is thought to share a close relationship with, as he has left the reserve side and joined Turkish Super Lig side Gençlerbirligi.

His father Dursun is also the agent of Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof, who signed for the Red Devils in a £31m deal from Benfica in 2017. His other clients include Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg, Leicester star Daniel Amartey and former Manchester City forward John Guidetti.

While his son's move at Barcelona hasn't worked out, he will be pleased with the progress his biggest client De Jong is making at the club this season.

The 22-year-old is thriving with the LaLiga champions and has slotted into central midfield comfortably, starting 23 games with one goal scored and two assists provided.

His passing is something that has really shone through in his performances. He has a 92.7 per cent success rate in the league this season, showing he is a great fit for Barca's possession based style.
