Vincent Kompany is a contender for the Tottenham head coach’s job - but Burnley are ready to offer their boss an improved deal to keep him at Turf Moor.
Former Manchester City captain Kompany is emerging as one of the most promising coaches in English football having already secured Burnley an instant return to the Premier League.
The former Belgium defender is among the names under consideration at Tottenham, though Mail Sport understands there is some apprehension from some figures at the north London club about his lack of experience.
Kompany spent two years at Anderlecht before joining Burnley ahead of the current season.
But while there is some concern about the 37-year-old’s relatively short period in management, the potential appointment of Kompany as Spurs’ new long-term head coach has backing behind the scenes.
The clubs head of coaching methodology Simon Davies already has a pre-existing relationship with Kompany having worked with the coach at Anderlecht.
Spurs have watched Mikel Arteta, who had no management experience, turn Arsenal into title contenders and believe they could also benefit from a similar appointment.
But given the huge success Kompany has had at Burnley since his appointment in June, the Lancashire side are determined to keep the former centre-back and are prepared to offer their head coach an improved contract to persuade him to stay even though his current terms still have a minimum three years to run.
Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Naglesmann is believed to have the strongest support at Tottenham.
Spurs have made overtures to ascertain whether Naglesmann would be prepared to replace Antonio Conte as the club’s next full-time manager and whether he would be open to taking the role immediately.
Sources have told Mail Sport that Naglesmann has expressed to to Spurs that he wants time out of the game before returning for the start of next season.
However, the German coach is also on Chelsea’s radar and there is a feeling Naglesmann prefers a move to Stamford Bridge, though Spurs qualifying for the Champions League could prove a factor.
Despite supporters and certain players for Mauricio Pochettino to return to the Tottenham, the club are yet to make any moves with regards to bringing the Argentine back to north London.
Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot, ex-Spain boss Luis Enrique and Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi are among the other names under consideration.
