Belgium turned in an excellent display as they defeated Russia 3-0 in Saint Petersburg on Saturday evening.
The night was an all-round success for the Red Devils, with Eden Hazard putting in a dazzling display after coming on with just over a quarter of an hour remaining to give Belgium fans hope that he can be decisive in the remainder of the tournament.
As Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring after ten minutes, he ran to the touchline camera to send a brilliant message to his Inter teammate Christian Eriksen.
"Chris, Chris... I love you," Lukaku exclaimed.
Having just scored his 61st goal for Belgium, his first thought was of his club teammate who collapsed on the pitch during the match between Denmark and Finland earlier in the day.
Roberto Martinez has transformed Belgium since taking charge in 2016.
Based on this performance, his side look well prepared to go even better than the third-place finish they achieved at the 2018 World Cup.
Whilst Belgium put in a brilliant performance, they were given a helping hand by their opponents on the night.
The deficiencies of the team, such as central defender Aleksandr Samedov and goalkeeper Anton Shunin, were ruthlessly exposed by Belgium's outstanding attack.
On an otherwise perfect night for Belgium, their injury list increased after Timothy Castagne and Jan Vertonghen had to be replaced.
Whilst they have replacements, such as Thomas Meunier and Thomas Vermaelen, these injuries are a significant setback for Roberto Martinez.
