Florentino Perez wants to remain as Real Madrid's president and in a bid to persuade voters he's talked up a record transfer bid - naming only the players he won't pursue
Florentino Perez is hoping to get re-elected as Real Madrid's president and has teased a record-transfer by only giving a few clues.
Perez was known for pioneering the Galactico recruitment policy that helped the Spanish giants consolidate themselves as one of the world's biggest clubs. That strategy endured mixed results, even if it did attract and land big names.
Real are reeling from two successive seasons without a trophy and Perez has claimed he will spent "about 150 million euros" (£130m) for an attacking player if re-elected.
He's stated a cluster of names who will not be on his shopping list. Namely Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Jeremy Doku and Erling Haaland. Perez has also divulged that the player is not playing in England but will "generate excitement."
The Real chief did though state that the club he would contact are "a major Champions League" outfit. He told Spanish TV show Horizonte: "I have some news for you. On Tuesday or so, I'm going to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a great player. It would be the largest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid in its history."
Speaking on who could be the target Perez only served to rule out players. "Olise is a great player but it's not Olise. It's not Doku either," he said.
"We're going to make a significant offer, at least around 150m. He needs to be a player from midfield who can go forward. And it's not Haaland. The player is not from the Premier League. And the first thing we'll do is talk to the club. It's a signing meant to generate excitement because that's what it's all about, generating excitement."
We take a look at who Perez could be eyeing up given the hefty price tag, the calibre of club he's playing for and the amount of players he's already ruled out.
Ousmane Dembele
The Ballon d'Or winner from last year could well scoop it again after claiming another Champions League winners' medal. The Frenchman's numbers have not matched what he did last year but he remained hugely influential and often looked a cut above during certain games. His goals downed Liverpool in the knockouts and he scored from the penalty spot to level the final against Arsenal. He wouldn't be the first ex-Barcelona player to end up at the Bernabeu and, given his current stature, would certainly get the fans excited.
Jamal Musiala
The German is among the most talented playmakers around the Perez did suggest that he wanted a player who could take the game from midfield into the final third. That doesn't necessarily mean a midfielder, but someone capable of linking the play and the Bayern Munich star has certainly showcased that. Musiala has somewhat fade into the background due to an injury that robbed him of much of the season, but he's still one of the best young talents around.
Vitinha
He's not a player who's going to destroy the stats columns, but he's as influential as anyone at PSG right now. The Portuguese midfielder has blossomed in Paris and has controlled the tempo and controlled games for the European champions. Perez did say the signing would generate excitement, and Madrid fans can be fickle when it comes to wanting out and out superstars, which could see Vitinha overlooked.
Rodri
Landing the only Spaniard to win the Ballon d'Or in the modern era would certainly be a coup for the team that regards themselves as Spain's biggest.
A World Cup success could see Rodri's stock rise even further and the Manchester City ace has been linked with a move away from the Etihad. Similar to Vitinha, Rodri is hugely influential but maybe not a name who will get fans off their seat with every passing week. Pep Guardiola's City exit will herald a new era, and it remains to be seen how central Rodri proves to be.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia
Since moving to Paris 18 months ago the Georgian has continued to flourish and is among Europe's most deadly wingers. Kvaratskhelia scored 10 times in 16 Champions League outings and has often proved he has the appetite for the big occasion. The winger has been linked with Arsenal but it would likely take a seismic offer before PSG considered cashing in, but Perez has indicated his desire to pay such sums.

that's one of the thing I dislike about Perez that he didn't signed AVG players on low price, but when a player becomes star player he immediately go for him but at a very high price!
