Wu Lei makes history by becoming the first Chinese player to score in LaLiga

Espanyol fans were eager to celebrate a goal from Wu Lei and it duly arrived on Saturday afternoon as he scored the third goal in a 3-1 win against Real Valladolid at the RCDE Stadium.

As a result of that strike, the 27-year-old has become the first Chinese player to score in LaLiga Santander, just two matchdays after becoming the first Chinese player to start in the Spanish top flight.

The attacker is already very popular amongst both his teammates and supporters, and that was shown by the celebrations throughout the ground after his goal.

Wu Lei arrived in the January transfer window and made a cameo appearance against Villarreal, but he truly showed his talent against Rayo Vallecano as he came on as a substitute for the injured Pablo Piatti and changed the game.

The doubts that surrounded his move have mostly dissipated and his quick adaptation to LaLiga Santander has surprised many people.

Upon being substituted late in the game against Valladolid, Wu Lei received a standing ovation and even gave his shirt to a fan in the crowd, amidst chants of his name.
