Xavi's Al Sadd to kick off Club World Cup

Xavi Hernandez's Al Sadd take on Hienghene from New Caledonia in the opening game of the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday.

The Qatari champions have home advantage as the tournament is being held in the Gulf state.

Liverpool, as winners of the Champions League, are the standout favourite for the tournament.

The last time a non-European club won the Club World Cup was in 2012, when Brazil's Corinthians earned a shock win over Chelsea.

Real Madrid are forced to surrender their crown after winning it three years in a row.

Xavi has already won two Club World Cup titles, in 2009 and 2011, with Barcelona and will be hoping to spring a surprise this year by winning his first as a coach.
