Xavi's proposal to make football more fun: Play 10 v 10

Describing himself as the antithesis of Diego Simeone, Xavi Hernandez, has come up with a novel suggestion to reform football; to play 10 v 10.

The former Barcelona midfielder has given a few hints of how he would like to be as a coach, and sees his old team as perfectly capable of winning another treble this season.

"The coach conveys the philosophy he believes in," the midfielder sad in an interview on Catalan radio.

"Simeone believes that not having the ball can be the dominator of the game.

"With all due respect to him, I am the antithesis totally, I prefer that my team has the ball, and that makes me calmer.

"There are defensive and offensive coaches, and when things go wrong you see the real coach."

Football has become more physical and tactical and Xavi wants to make things fresh and fun again.

"It's difficult to improve, it's difficult to play without spaces, it's difficult to attack closed defences, especially from Simeone," he continued.

"In the future I think you could play with one less player, 10 v 10.

"It's a daring proposal but would aid the entertainment factor."

With Barcelona having finally found their form again, Xavi believes there is every chance they can become the first team in history to win a third treble.

"It can't be an obsession," he added.

"But with the players Valverde has, he is capable of winning the treble.

"What weighs more heavily is that Real Madrid have won the previous three Champions Leagues.

"Barcelona can't have the disorder with which Madrid plays, we have won through a certain game pattern."
