Zidane has been the most efficient coach in Real Madrid's history

Zinedine Zidane may have broken records during his time as Real Madrid boss, but he's not the most efficient coach in the club's history.

That honour isn't held by mythical names like Vicente del Bosque, Leo Beenhakker or Luis Molowny either.

That title instead belongs to Jose Villalonga, who won a trophy every 17.5 matches in charge.

Those trophies came in the form of two European Cups, two LaLiga titles and two Copa Latina trophies, all the space of Villalonga's 105 games as coach.

Villalonga was also in charge of the Spanish national team when they won the 1964 European Championship, and Atletico Madrid when they won the Cup Winners' Cup and two Copa del Rey trophies.

Zidane is, however, Real Madrid's second most prolific coach when it comes to winning silverware.

In his 199 games in charge of Los Blancos, the Frenchman has won 10 trophies, giving him a ratio of 19.9 games per trophy.

In his first spell as Real Madrid boss, Zidane was actually more efficient than Villalonga, winning a trophy every 16.5 matches.

In third place is Molowny, who won eight trophies in 180 games - one every 22.5 games - during the 1970s and 80s, including two European Cups.

Del Bosque picks up fourth position in the rankings, winning eight trophies in 246 games - one every 30.7 games - including two European Cups.

He also went on to win the World Cup and Euro 2012 in charge of the Spanish national team.

After Del Bosque comes Beenhakker, who won six trophies in 197 games in charge of Los Blancos - one every 32.8 games - and Miguel Munoz, who has more trophies than any other coach (14) in 605 games in charge - one every 43.2 games.

De Carcer was Real Madrid's first ever coach and won five trophies in 71 games between 1920 and 1926, including four regional championships, before LaLiga was formed in 1928.
