Zidane 'will remain at Real Madrid and has NO intention of taking France job'

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane will reportedly stay at the club next season and is set to open talks about a contract extension this summer.

Zidane, the former Madrid player who won three Champions League titles in his first stint as manager from 2016-2018, has a deal until July 2022 with the LaLiga champions.

The 1998 World Cup winner has been linked with the France job though, amid links he could take over from Didier Deschamps after this summer's Euros but that seems unlikely, according to Telefoot via Diario Sport, given Deschamps wants to stay in charge of his country for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The report details that, as a result, Zidane will be in charge at the Bernabeu next season and talks with president Florentino Perez are likely in the coming months.

Deschamps has before tipped Zidane to take over from him, managing a star-studded French squad which he led to glory at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

'He already had legitimacy, but he has credibility because of what he achieved with Real,' Deschamps has said, in reference to Zidane taking over as France boss in the future.

'So it's likely that at some point, it could happen.'

However, while Deschamps is keen to take his country all the way to the next World Cup in November 2022, the report does not rule out Zidane taking over for that tournament.

Like Zidane's contract at Madrid, Deschamps' deal as French boss expires in the summer of 2022, a few months before the winter World Cup is scheduled to take place.

Since first taking over in 2016, Zidane has also guided Madrid to two LaLiga titles, one in 2017 and one last season, and his side are third in the table this season, six points off leaders Atletico.

Madrid beat Celta Vigo 3-1 at the weekend and also have a Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool to look forward to after the international break.
