Incoming Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman will tell the Catalan club to sign Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek, according to reports.

Koeman is set to be named as the new head coach of the Catalans after Quique Setien was sacked following Barcelona's horrific 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich last week.

The 57-year-old is one of several wide-ranging changes being made at the La Liga giants, who suffered a trophyless season for the first time since 2014.

And the Dutch coach will ask his new employers to bring in Van de Beek as a priorty signing, according to French news outlet Le10Sport.

The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from Holland this summer, after impressing for Ajax over the past two seasons.

Van de Beek was part of the Dutch Eredivisie side who reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2018-19, before being knocked out in cruel fashion by Tottenham Hotspur.

That team was broken up the following transfer window, with Frenkie De Jong moving to Barcelona while Mattijs De Ligt switched the Dutch champions for Italian Scudetto winners Juventus.

Van de Beek, meanwhile, opted to stay with Ajax and scored ten goals in 37 matches last term for his boyhood club.

The midfielder came through the youth ranks at Ajax before breaking into the first-team in 2015.

He has since made 175 appearances for the Ajax first-team, scoring 41 goals.

Van de Beek has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, amid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's desire to freshen up his midfield.
