Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are both due to attend River Plate and Boca Juniors' Copa Libertadores final second leg at the Bernabéu on Sunday - and are set to watch the clash side by side. It will be Ronaldo's first time back at the stadium since he left Madrid for Juventus in the summer.
Madrid president Florentino Pérez is planning to sit Ronaldo and Messi together in the presidential box, in a gesture of respect to the two players who have dominated the world game over the past decade, with the Spanish FA (RFEF) and CONMEBOL, South American football's governing body, both in agreement with the idea.
With Barcelona scheduled to face city rivals Espanyol in LaLiga on Saturday, Messi is expected to travel to Madrid on the day of the game; meanwhile, it is understood that Ronaldo - whose Juve side host Inter Milan in Serie A on the Friday - will take the chance to spend the weekend in the Spanish capital.
While Ronaldo contacted his former club directly for tickets, Messi got in touch with the RFEF - who have been inundated with requests from players and coaches based in Spain and abroad. Indeed, in the wake of last week's confirmation that the Bernabéu would be the venue for the match, the RFEF's telephone switchboard collapsed under the avalanche of calls that the organisation received.
