The former AC Milan and Manchester City star has joined the UAE Second Division club as a free agent after leaving Genoa last summer.
Fulco explained to TMW: "We had a top free agent and another top Serie B player in our pocket, Mattia Destro and (Daniele) Verde.
"Then, while speaking with the president, the idea of Mario came up. So I called Nicola Maffessoli, with whom we shared two wonderful months of negotiations.
"We tried from the beginning. As a top player, the first approach is crucial to understand and discuss the situation. There was a positive vibe from the start, and as time went by, the deal became more and more concrete. Then the president personally stepped in, giving that extra something to close the deal."
He added, "Mario was our last foreign signing. We've completed other deals with both residents and locals. We want to raise the bar. And in the long run, we want to move up a division."
