Max Allegri admits Juventus deserved defeat to Young Boys, but “achieved our objective” of topping the Champions League group.
The Bianconeri lost their unbeaten away record after 26 competitive games, stretching back to November 2017, but topped the group anyway as Manchester United lost 2-1 to Valencia.
“We achieved our objective by winning the group, even on a night where everything seemed to go wrong,” the Coach told Rai Sport.
“We missed so many opportunities and gifted a penalty, so at the end of the day it was only right that we lost.”
Paulo Dybala came off the bench to score a powerful finish and was about to get the equaliser, but it was disallowed for Cristiano Ronaldo’s offside position.
“It was offside. In any case, an equaliser wouldn’t have changed anything at that point. We started well and were not lazy in our approach, things just didn’t go our way, but we still won the group and I therefore thank the lads.
“I preferred to rest Miralem Pjanic ahead of the derby with Torino on Saturday.”
Juventus could face Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, Liverpool, Schalke, Ajax or Lyon in the Round of 16.
“It doesn’t matter who we face, as long as we reach February in good shape.”

Stop trolling Ronaldo, he is a great champion, but he was never a 100% guarantee for winning anything. He is amazing and strong athlete, but it’s a fact that he is a human being. Juve played bad as a team, you should not forget that football is a team game, when the whole team play bad, one player can’t save you, no matter if he is Ronaldo or Messi. We have seen Real losing with Ronaldo, Juve losing with Ronaldo and also Barcelona losing with Messi without scoring, so forget the stupid things about aliens... they are humans and they are not machines, stress builds up and when you are under pressure it’s hard to focus and give your best. Ronaldo will be decisive in other games, tonight would be nice for him to score, but he didn’t, Barca should have destroyed Tottenham considering the 4:2 win against them at Wembley, but they also disappointed their fans and Messi didn’t score, so stop with the hate, in football happens. I have been a big fan of Ronaldo for so many years and I never ever hated him for not scoring because I understand football and I know he will be back soon and silence everybody and I will continue to watch him at Juve because no matter he plays for a different club I can’t stop supporting him after so many positive emotions and celebrations this player gave me with every single goal he scored.

I have been saying that Juventus have been great in Italy just because they have a much better squad than others and the Italian teams play similar tactics. In UCL different teams have completely different tactics. Adapting is the key in UCL and that doesn’t look possible for Juventus because Allegri’s tactics are just plain defensive while Juventus attacking is one dimensional crossing in the box types. In fact I believe Juventus has been tactically really bad since Ronnie’s arrival because Allegri thought that crossing and heading will win Juve the UCL. If Juve doesn’t improve they will crash out sooner or later. UCL will remain a dream. Tactical flexibility and reactionary tactics are important in UCL.
