Ruben Amorim's decision to force Rasmus Hojlund out of Manchester United left the squad 'shocked,' according to one of their stars.
Hojlund was made to join Napoli on loan on deadline day against his wishes, just a year after he was considered untouchable alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. The deal includes an obligation to buy.
The striker was clear over the summer that he wanted to stay and fight for his place, but the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo for over £200million saw his prospects limited.
Hojlund had failed to live up to his £72m price tag, scoring just 26 goals in 95 games for United, but it seems his team-mates expected him to stay.
Amorim made the call to let him go and Ineos were happy to go along with it.
And Patrick Dorgu, his team-mate for United and Denmark, said via Ekstra Bladet: 'That's how it is in football. You never know when it's your turn to move on.
'We knew that it would happen to Christian [Eriksen], but it was perhaps a bigger shock that Rasmus had to move on. I talked to him a lot during the process and could sense which way it was going.
'Hopefully, we will now see each other every time on the national team."
'I have been very happy to be teammates with Christian and Rasmus. It was a big plus for me that they were at the club when I joined. That way it was easier to become part of the squad [as they are Danish too],' he added.
'But it was in no way decisive for my choice of Manchester United. I was thinking much more about the coach’s plans and ideas with me when I had to make the decision.'
Napoli had agreed to pay a loan fee of around £5.1million (€6m) with a mandatory purchase clause worth £38m (€44m) that it is understood will become active under certain conditions.
For Dorgu, who only arrived in the winter transfer window, Hojlund's exit is a reminder that any player's stock can fall quickly.
But Hojlund will experience the joy of playing in the Champions League, competing for the Serie A title, and linking up with old Red Devils team-mate Scott McTominay, who has had a storming time since joining Napoli.
United said in a statement: 'Rasmus has agreed a move to the Serie A champions, under the management of Antonio Conte.
'Napoli will be the fifth club Hojlund has represented during his career, following earlier spells with Copenhagen and Sturm Graz.
'We'd like to wish Rasmus good luck for the campaign ahead.'
Napoli's announcement read: 'SSC Napoli announces that it has acquired the sporting services of footballer Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United Football Club on loan with an obligation to buy.
'Born on February 4, 2003, the Danish footballer grew up in the youth teams of Brondby, Holbaek and FC Copenhagen.
'After a year with Sturm Graz, Rasmus joined Atalanta in August 2022, playing 34 games and scoring 10 goals. The following season, he moved to Manchester United, scoring 26 goals in 95 appearances. He scored eight goals in 26 appearances for the Danish national team. Welcome, Rasmus!'

Amorin doesn't trust even the academy players that's why he bought mostly outsider players instead of promoting academy players.. and his thoughts was to out smart Sir Alex.. Sir Alex trusted mostly trusted the young players from the academy in his era but Amorin the kid manager of Manchester United knows nothing..

he Amorin had a raw striker he let him go.. if Hojlund play in the era of Sir Alex for sure he's the deadliest striker ever played for Manchester United.. but sadly being managed by a kid manager who knows nothing about Manchester United.. purely a clueless manager..

I wonder the type of coaches Manchester United is hiring that always use their power to hat and condemn players they met, Ole Gunnar Solskjær manage the squad well and there was peace within the squad though we rival fans, don't like them wining but you can see that the guy did well until they start playing the game of big man which is the problem of Manchester United that is why the problem come back again

Sensational reporting where did you get that information from, Hojlund had himself to blame he was given all the chances to improve but instead he continued getting worse, the coach stood by him even when everyone was calling for his head and today you the media who criticized him left right and center are turning round trying to paint Amorim black that's hypocrisy

The media painted Amorim bad and dumb fans follows like zombies… thesame fans complained when he play rugby on the pitch instead of positioning himself wel and do footwork.. Well, I personally like him but Manutd isn’t patient, we want result and there are many times when Amorim said he wants to keep him but the club need money and rested we people are here saying bullshit. This are the issues that scatters the team and the club as whole…too much talk!!

Disappointed to see him leaving, but Amorin had no chance. He is under pump and always under scrutiny at United. Arch ridals City looses 2 games, but not a single word from pundits, but if it is United then all will jump to conclusion. He had no choice but go for jugular & he has succeeded to move out players not in his scheme of things. Garnacho (40 mil) & Antony (25 mil) sales will certainly help United in future. Loan deals for Rashford,Sancho,Hojlund with obligation to buy will ease wage bill structure. Now focus on GK Onana & Malacia. Hope we can move both before window closes in Turkey & Saudi. We will taking massive cut on Antony, Sancho & Hojlund. But will have pure profit on sale of Garnacho will benefit our PSR.
thanks for that bro

It's amazing how talking for a living goes these days. The same people who have bombarded us and Amorim on how useless Holjund was are now shocked he has been loaned out. When he plays the question why the coach gave him the chance. United are in financial difficulties and if a player isn't going to play then he might as well go to a team that will pay part or all of his salary. The money saved will help in getting players the club failed to deliver in the first transfer window for the coach.
