Argentina 2-2 Uruguay: Messi responds to Suarez masterclass with 91-min penalty

Barcelona strikers Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi were on target as Uruguay and Argentina played out a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Stadium.

Lionel Messi scored a stoppage-time penalty to secure Argentina an entertaining 2-2 draw with Uruguay in Tel Aviv on Monday.

Argentina fell behind when Edinson Cavani, who scored in Uruguay's 2-1 win over Hungary on Friday, notched his 50th international goal in the 34th minute.

That lead was cancelled out when Sergio Aguero headed home a set-piece delivery from Messi, before Luis Suarez restored La Celeste's advantage five minutes later with a superb free-kick.

Argentina are caught on the counter as Lozano collects down the left. He works the ball back to Torreira, who curls a delightful delivery over Tagliafico to Suarez in the right inside channel. His cutback is precise for Cavani to stretch and finish past Andrada from close range. There were suspicions of offside, but the linesman's flag remained down.

38' Handball! Dybala’s goal disallowed

Dybala's effort is ruled out for handball. He latches on to Acuna's cutback in the middle and slams an effort at goal. It blasts off Godin back to the forward, striking his hand in the process. Dybala blasts a strike past Campana, but his celebrations are short-lived as the referee blows his whistle.

53' Messi's long rang free kick stopped by Campana

Messi rifles a strike low towards the right bottom corner, but Campana gets down well to push his strike away from goal. Acuna lifts a cross back into the box, but Uruguay have enough men back to clear their lines.

Argentina notch the equaliser as Aguero rises to head Messi's free-kick into the net from close range. The Barcelona man puts his delivery on the money in the six-yard box and Aguero beats his man to glance his header into the top-right corner.

68' GOAL! Argentina 1-2 Uruguay (Suarez)

Suarez lifts his effort over the wall with a curling effort. It bends away from Andrada, who gets a hand to the strike. However, it has too much power for his hand and he can only beat the ball into the roof of the net.

92' Penalty Goal! Argentina 2-2 Uruguay (Messi)

Caceres is penalised for handball as Aguero flicks the ball off his hand in the box. Messi holds his composure to notch the equaliser for Argentina. Campana commits to moving to his left and Messi spots it and strikes the ball away from the keeper down the middle of the net.
