The 32-year-old has been recalled for Ghana’s upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leona.
After more than a year of absence, Asamoah Gyan has been handed a recall to the Ghana national squad for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Sierra Leona on October 11 and 15.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time top scorer, has played just twice this season for his club, Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor, and is yet to score.
The decision by the national team coach, Kwesi Appiah, to recall the 32-year-old striker has sparked controversy amid his recent lack of opportunities.
However, Gyan has never disappointed in Ghana colours, and this could be the main reason for his recall.
Currently Ghana tops Group F of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers on goal difference. Ethiopia and Kenya complete the group.
Still no place for Ayew brothers
Appiah opted not to include the Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan, in the 23-men list to face Sierra Leona next week.
Neither Andre nor Jordan have been called up for over a year after both opted out of a 2018 World Cup qualifier against Congo.
Ghana 23-men list

This is total nonsense from kwesi appiah for calling asamoah gyan back, he is bringing total tribalism into the team, if that's the case, why didn't him call the ayew brothers too
