Atalanta 1-0 Bologna: Muriel super-sub

Atalanta cut the gap on Juventus to just six points with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Bologna on Tuesday evening.

A bad-tempered first half saw Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini sent off, but Luis Muriel came off the substitutes' bench to salvage all three points for the Dea, allowing them to leapfrog Inter into second.

Gasperini stuck with much of the team who drew with Verona against Bologna, whose coach Sinisa Mihajlovic rung the changes after a 5-1 defeat to Milan, bringing in Bergamo old boy Musa Barrow.

Atalanta dominated possession early on but only forced Lukasz Skorupski into one real stop from Mario Pasalic, who struck from close range after a neat give-and-go with Duvan Zapata.

Instead, it was the visitors who had the better chances as Pierluigi Gollini tipped Roberto Soriano’s drive around the post and Barrow hit the bar from a free kick.

With the Rossoblu doing their best to stifle the contest, the most entertainment came on the touchline as Mihajlovic and Gasperini exchanged unpleasantries.

The Bologna boss was furious with Federico La Penna’s not to book Robin Gosens, provoking a response from his counterpart, who was the one ultimately sent to the stands.
