Sports law expert Marc Remolà believes that the legal strategy followed by the club is not the most effective: "The Dani Olmo case will be resolved if Barça pays the agreed millions tomorrow."
"I believe that Dani Olmo 's case will end up being resolved if tomorrow Barça can justify to the League the 100 million euros agreed with Saudi Arabia in exchange for the exploitation of the VIP seats in the new Camp Nou. If it does, the matter will end here, because otherwise the mess could be much bigger for everyone."
He considers that since Olmo's registration request was made before the deadline ended —December 31— and that the money is simply pending payment, the Terrassa midfielder's registration will end up being allowed.
In any case, Remolà believes that the legal strategy that the club is following is not the best. FC Barcelona is relying on an article in the regulations of the Spanish Federation that states that "in exceptional cases of force majeure " players from the same club can be re-registered in the same season. According to the lawyer, however, the Federation's previous resolutions are very restrictive in this regard: "For me, it is not a path with much to go on."
Remolà defends that Barça should fight the validity of revoking a federation license once it has already been granted, as is the case with Olmo and Pau Víctor. "Generally, federation licenses are for the entire season. Furthermore, the one who is requesting the registration is Christensen, because Olmo is active, he is playing," he adds.
Regarding financial fair play , the rule that regulates that clubs do not stretch their arms beyond their sleeves by going into too much debt, the expert explains that if Olmo's re-registration is not allowed, it would be broken.
"It would generate an imbalance and inequality in the League. In this sense, the purpose of the rule would be totally contradictory and contrary to the laws of free competition and free movement of workers," says Remolà.
In any case, if the Federation does not return Olmo's federation card this Friday, the lawyer believes that Barça could still resort to another legal route so that the player from Egaren can wear the Barça shirt again.
