Bayern stars forget Bundesliga trouble with beers at Oktoberfest

Usually, when celebrating the Bavarian tradition of Oktoberfest, it is also a festival at which Bayern Munich's players and staff can enjoy taking an early grip on the Bundesliga on their way to another title.

Oktoberfest - the world's largest beer festival, and a central part of the Munich calendar since 1810 - concluded on Sunday, with the usual array of beers, German foods and traditional outfits including lederhosen.

As usual, Bayern's players and coaches were present - but the party atmosphere was tempered somewhat by the Bundesliga giant's poor start to the league season.

Wearing traditional leather trousers, players posed for photographs with their families, with women dressed in the dirndl dresses of the region.

Among the star players present were Mats Hummels with wife Cathy Fischer, and midfielder Thiago - resplendent in a red waistcoat - with his partner Julia Vigas.

Thomas Muller was in full proud German mode - in traditional clothing, clutching a stein full off some of the 7.7million litres of beer drunk at Oktoberfest - as he posed with his wife Lisa.

Bayern coach Niko Kovac meanwhile was photographed with chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge holding giant mugs of beer, but the manager looked preoccupied with his job reportedly on the line ahead of the international break.

Bayern lost 3-0 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, stretching their winless run to four games.

Kovac's team, who started the season with seven wins across all competitions, are four points behind Borussia Dortmund after seven rounds of the Bundesliga.

While Rummenigge and club president Uli Hoeness have declined to comment, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic appeared to defend the coach on Saturday.

'We have to get out of here again. We'll only do that if we pull back together again,' Salihamidzic said.

Defender Javi Martinez issued a rallying cry on Twitter, writing: We win together, we cry together, we succes together, we fail together... but I believe in this team and we will fight as always together.

'And those who talk s**t in difficult situations like this: enjoy your moment, because this team will raise up again stronger than ever!'
