Milan and Inter have unveiled plans for a new stadium. Most of the historic San Siro will be demolished, and the new Generali Arena, with a capacity of 71,500, will be built next to the existing site. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028, with the stadium opening for the 2031/32 season. The total cost is approximately €2.3 billion. San Siro will remain in use until the new stadium is operational. The design, by Foster + Partners, drew protests from Inter fans at the launch event, who chanted "Don't touch San Siro" and displayed banners reading: "You will never extinguish the lights of San Siro."

The design has been widely ridiculed online, with fans jokingly comparing it to a washing machine or an air fryer and criticizing it as soulless and more like a shopping mall. Many fans consider the demolition of San Siro a scandal, as the stadium is a treasure of world football. San Siro was completed in 1926 and has hosted four European Cup/Champions League finals, two World Cups and a European Championship. Its current capacity is 75,923, making it the largest stadium in Serie A.

The new stadium will be oval-shaped, with an X-shaped steel facade and a hyperbolic roof, abandoning San Siro's iconic pillars and red steel beams. The LED facade can switch between the team colors of Milan and Inter. The stands behind the goals will have a 37-degree incline, and a glass player tunnel will bring fans closer to the players. The entire 80,000-square-meter site will include a shopping mall, hotel, park, museum and medical center in addition to the stadium. It will be able to host football, rugby, NFL games and concerts. The new stadium could even host the final of Euro 2032, which Italy and Turkey will co-host.
