Bologna skipper Ferguson: We got it all wrong

Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson felt they let themselves down after defeat at Aston Villa on Thursday night.

Villa won the quarterfinal second-leg 4-0 to reach the Europa League semifinals 7-1 on aggregate.

Ferguson conceded: "I don't think we showed a good account of ourselves at all.

"We got it all wrong in the first half. Aston Villa are a top side and we knew that; the better team won on the night. They made it an absolute mountain to climb in the first half.

"I'm proud of the team and really proud to captain this team in a European competition, and go towards the latter stages of it. We gave it our best shot.

"The only team we lost to in the whole competition was Aston Villa and unfortunately we came up against them three times and came up short against them three times.

"A lot of positives. We were taught a pretty decent lesson tonight. We've played 14 games in this competition and there have been some amazing nights, especially the away game at Roma in the last round and some big results at home.

"So there are lots of positives and a lot of things to learn."
