Marco Borriello reveals the sudden death of Davide Astori changed his life. “I started enjoying my life a bit more and I think Davide taught us a lot.”

The Fiorentina captain died in his sleep at the team hotel the night before a Serie A match against Udinese, aged just 31.

“Something happened that hit all players hard and that was the death of Davide Astori,” Borriello told Rai 1.

“At Davide’s funeral, I listened to the words of the Cardinal who said at times you can earn a lot of money and have success, but from one moment to the next, you’re no longer there.

“So I started enjoying my life a bit more and taking it less seriously. Unfortunately, Davide has gone, but I think he taught us a lot.

“I would’ve liked to have Cristiano Ronaldo’s career, but I’m happy anyway. I enjoy life now with a smile and the utmost positivity.”

Borriello just started a new experience in Spain with UD Ibiza.

“I didn’t play very often last season, as I was injured. My home is in Milan and I spent a lot of time there, but woke up every morning and found myself thinking this wasn’t the life I wanted to live.

“I always thought of coming to Ibiza, where there is sun, the sea and fun. It’s a complete island with an international airport and now we hope to bring some sporting events too.”
