Marco Borriello surprised many football fans this summer as he left Serie A to join UD Ibiza in the Segunda B as part of an ambitious project to elevate the club from Spain's third division to LaLiga Santander.
Despite only being founded in 2015, Ibiza achieved promotion to the Segunda B at the expense of Lorca, who were prohibited on financial grounds, and signing the 36-year-old shows the intent of the owners.
"I love football and I still play it with great seriousness and professionalism, but here I also have the mission to help give back to this island part of what it has given to me," the former Italy striker told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"For people, Ibiza means discos, fun and easy women; my challenge is to take Ibiza to the top, until we reach LaLiga Santander.
"The project of [former Valencia president Amadeo] Salvo caught me just when I was thinking of moving to New York, where I just bought a new house.
"I dream that the club's anthem is played by the biggest DJs in the world, who perform here often, as we give the island the only thing it is missing: a sporting attraction."
Borriello is very optimistic about the future of the club and even predicts that Ibiza will become the Los Angeles of Europe.
"Something big is going to happen here," he continued.
"This is a magical place and soon there will also be a strong team; Ibiza will become the Los Angeles of Europe.
"Here there are houses bought by the richest people in the world, there is everything you need to have fun, and in addition, a little further out, there is silence."
The Italian is adamant that he is in Spain to partake in this project and to treat it with seriousness.
"I have made many sacrifices and mistakes, but I have liked my life," he said.
"I have [slept with] many women, I have played in great teams and now I have found a balance.
"In my mind there are many ideas to make and I am convinced that the Ibiza project is the most important [project] of my life."

Match players ramdom can serve to win in publicity but I think if they put the team in the professional league would give more money for the team and the city, in my opinion
