Buffon watches his son score first international goal - but not for Italy!

The son of Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon has scored his first international goal - but it didn't come for Italy.

Buffon made his name as a legendary goalkeeper for the likes of Juventus, playing 176 times for his country - the most of any player ever - and 685 times for Juventus.

He retired in 2023, ending his career at Parma - still in his home country - which is the team he began his career with before moving to turn and then Paris Saint-Germain.

In total, he made nearly 1000 club career appearances as a professional, and his retirement left a lasting legacy that is now somewhat being continued by his son, Louis.

Louis is playing for Pisa in Serie B, recently making his professional debut. But, rather than following his father's footsteps as a shot-stopper, is in fact an attacker.

And now, taking his talents to the international stage, he has once again taking a different path to his father - by not playing for Italy.

Despite being born in the country and his father's legacy huge, Louis has instead chosen to represent Czechia.

This week, he scored his first goal for the Under-18 side, as they secured an impressed 4-1 win over France.

The teenager qualifies to represent Czechia through his mother, Alena Seredova, who Buffon married in 2011. She is a former Czech beauty pageant winner, with Louis choosing to represent her country instead of Buffon's.

Buffon separated from Seredova in 2014, but Louis holds a dual citizenship - meaning he could yet represent Italy at senior level in the future. Buffon, meanwhile, is now married to Ilaria D'Amico.

Speaking on Buffon and Louis, former Czechia international Erich Brabec, who is now the technical director of the Czech Republic youth teams, admitted his pride at having a legend's son in his set-up.

'I don't know Gianluigi Buffon's opinion, but after finding out that he was on our list of those called up,' he said. 'They contacted him from Italy.'

'Personally, I just organised everything necessary with his mother so that he could show up at the training camp with the team.'

Louis also played for Juventus earlier in his career, joining in 2020 before separting in 2022 for CBA Scoula Calcio. He then joins Pisa's academy, and currently plays for their reserve team in the Primavera division.
