Cagliari and Andrea Belotti have been hit by a heavy injury blow.
The former Roma striker had kicked off his time with the Sardinians in superb fashion, scoring two goals in his first three Serie A games for his new club.
However, during defeat to Inter Milan on Saturday, the 31 year-old was forced from the pitch due to injury just before halftime.
Belotti required assistance to reach the touchline and this morning Cagliari announced he had suffered an ACL injury. The setback is likely to rule Belotti out for the remainder of the season.
Cagliari announced today: "Following the injury sustained in yesterday's match, Andrea Belotti underwent diagnostic tests and instrumental tests today which revealed a lesion of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
"The player will undergo further checks and specialist examinations in the coming days."
