Napoli manager Antonio Conte has praised Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund as he continues to impress.

Hojlund departed Old Trafford on transfer deadline day after United manager Ruben Amorim cleared the dead wood from his squad, who have since gone on to shine elsewhere away from the club.

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Rasmus Hojlund came up with the goals for Conte’s side in Serie A on Sunday afternoon as the Serie A champions beat Genoa 2-1 after which Conte praised the Danish striker.

"He's a 22-year-old who was on the sidelines at Manchester United.

"He has significant room for improvement, he needs to work because he has the potential to become a star, and he's proving it."

Since his loan transfer to Napoli, Hojlund has netted four goals in six matches and is one of the standout players for the club under Conte. Napoli are paying €6m to have the Denmark international on loan for the season and will have an option to buy for a further €44M.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the club would love to keep the young forward, in what could be a slap in the face for United as he continues to impress.

“Apart from the obligation to buy, Napoli want to keep Rasmus Hojlund permanently.

“Napoli trust him and see him as part of their long-term project.

“The permanent transfer is almost guaranteed.”
