Inter defender Stefan de Vrij claims ‘coming to San Siro as an opponent was like an episode of Westworld.’
De Vrij left Lazio to join Inter on a free transfer last summer, and the Dutchman likened his new home to that of the technologically-advanced, Wild-West-themed amusement park in the TV series.
“I first played as a midfielder and then as a right-back,” he told Inter’s Match Programme.
“Feyenoord thought I was stronger as a right-back, but I convinced them that it was better for me to move into central defence.
“My first goal? I remember it well. It came in the last game of Roy Makaay’s career. He even assisted me!
“Coming to San Siro as an opponent was almost like an episode of Westworld, honestly. There was fog and we’d come out in front of this impressive stadium, full of history.
“It felt like you were in front of an arena of the past. Before I’d be afraid but today, as an interista, I feel a crazy charge.
“I feel the pride and privilege of playing for these colours. You feel that the fans are always there with you.
“My objective is simple: to honour this shirt. I know that if we do, this is the best place to play football.”

Everytime I see Stefan De Vrij I think a top class centre back Inter Milan got for free because they were astute in the market. United should’ve been all over that from the moment he announced he was leaving Lazio. As always reactive rather than proactive.

Problem is we werent either defending nor attacking. If we were defending we would line back in 2 wall zone and completely shut down any crosses. Thing is, we didnt do that, 1 long ball done our complete midfield, De Vrij had to leave his position and you have it.

Inter have a much more solid squad than last season. Vrsajlko, de Vrij, Asamoah and Politano have really improved our squad. Haven't seen Keita or Lautaro to their potential yet.
