Former Juventus star Alessandro Del Piero doesn’t believe his old teammate and Inter coach Antonio Conte has given up on the Scudetto.
The Nerazzurri coach told Sky Sport Italia that his team “can’t be compared to a side that dominated Italian football for eight years” after the 2-0 defeat to Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.
Del Piero feels Conte, who claimed to be building “brick by brick”, has to speak to the masses and expects that the former Bianconeri coach will spur Inter on behind closed doors.
“I don’t believe Inter are out of the Scudetto fight,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia. “On the contrary, knowing Conte, I’m sure that he will be even more animalistic.
“The speech was to the square; the fans could be disappointed, and he wanted to tell them that they have been doing well so far.
“But I’m sure that the words will be completely different internally.”
“I feel like I'm seeing a film that has already been seen with regard to Juve. They arrive in trouble and then when they have to win, they do so.
“As the minutes went by, they did very well after the goal. On a general level there's still a bit of difference between the two teams, at least in the direct clash. Inter still need to grow a bit more.”
Finally, Del Piero discussed the performance of former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, who failed to unlock the game for the Nerazzurri after being brought on in the second half in place of Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella.
“He's a player who's used to playing in space and maybe that's one of the reasons why he was bought. Today you need to play with a little more risk to win games, especially with the big ones.”
