Dortmund 1-4 Leipzig: BVB fell nine points behind Bayern, Laimer nets brace

Borussia Dortmund fell nine points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich after losing 4-1 at home to RB Leipzig on Saturday evening.

Konrad Laimer scored a first-half brace before Christopher Nkunku netted Leipzig's third not long after the break. Donyell Malen pulled one back for Dortmund late on, but Dani Olmo re-established Leipzig's three-goal advantage in the final minutes.

Dortmund started with a very attacking-minded line-up, which featured Erling Haaland up front, but they could not cope with Domenico Tedesco's side.

The first goal of the game came in the 21st minute, as Nkunku put Laimer through on goal and he then kept his composure by chipping Gregor Kobel in the Dortmund goal.

Nine minutes later, Laimer grabbed his second as his shot from the edge of the box deflected off of Emre Can and found its way into the back of the net.

Leipzig made it 3-0 in the 57th minute, as Laimer's backheel into the path of Nkunku was guided into the bottom right corner by the Frenchman. That goal brings Nkunku's tally to 27 in 40 games in all competitions this season.

Malen headed home from close range in the 84th minute to reduce the deficit for Dortmund, but Dani Olmo ensured that Leipzig would win by a three-goal margin with a fantastic strike two minutes later.
