An unlucky deflection off Stefan Radu saw Lazio beaten 1-0 by Borussia Dortmund in their final pre-season friendly.
Lucas Leiva and Senad Lulic are suspended for the opening Serie A game of the season against Napoli, so they were left out of the starting XI in Essen.
It was an inauspicious start for Simone Inzaghi’s side, as within six minutes Christian Pulisic went on the counter and a deflection off Stefan Radu wrong-footed Thomas Strakosha.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto tested the goalkeeper, as did Pulisic at the other end after cutting inside Wallace, while Ciro Immobile just failed to get on the end of a wayward Luis Alberto volley.
After the restart, Dahoud’s free kick routine skimmed the woodwork and Joaquin Correa forced a save, but Lazio were largely toothless.
