EPL Team of the Week: Diaz leads attack, Alexander-Arnold and Cucurella in

Chelsea, Liverpool, Brighton and Crystal Palace each have two players feature in the Premier League Team of the Week following the weekend’s action. Tottenham, Bournemouth and Aston Villa are also represented in the XI. 

Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace) – 8.49 

 Crystal Palace had to work for their 1-0 win over Ipswich on Saturday with Dean Henderson doing enough to make the Premier League Team of the Week with a WhoScored rating of 8.49. Henderson was forced into seven saves and won one aerial duel in a clean sheet-attaining display. 


Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – 7.90 

 Trent Alexander-Arnold is the first of two Liverpool representatives in the best XI having earned a WhoScored rating of 7.90 in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Southampton. The 26-year-old got forward well having completed four dribbles and made two key passes, while an additional three tackles and two interceptions capped a solid showing from the Reds star. 

 

Jan Paul van Hecke (Brighton) – 8.25 

 Brighton came from behind to rescue all the spoils against Fulham on Saturday, with Jan Paul van Hecke the star performer for the Seagulls. The 24-year-old scored Brighton’s equaliser with one of two efforts, and worked hard off the ball, making six clearances and two tackles, to help his side to victory. 

 

Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa) – 7.69 

 Partnering Van Hecke at the heart of the defence is Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings, who returned a WhoScored rating of 7.69 in their 1-0 win at Brentford. Mings chipped in with six clearances, three interceptions and one tackle to secure his spot in the side. 

 

Marc Cucurella (Chelsea) – 8.06 

 Rounding off the defence, Marc Cucurella scored Chelsea’s only goal in their 1-0 win over lowly Leicester on Sunday, netting with one of two shots. Cucurella was vital as the Blues managed a clean sheet, too, making six clearances, one tackle and one interception on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.06. 


Pape Sarr (Tottenham) – 8.16 

 Pape Sarr sparked the comeback in Tottenham’s eventual 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Sunday. Sarr got the better of Kepa with his cross-cum-shot in the second half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while three key passes, three tackles and two interceptions saw the 22-year-old land a WhoScored rating of 8.16. 

 

Moises Caicedo (Chelsea) – 8.04 

 The second Chelsea player in the side, Moises Caicedo was a ball winning machine in a dominant display against Leicester, making four tackles and three interceptions in the 1-0 victory. The Ecuadorian also completed two dribbles and made one key pass to make the XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.04. 

 

Marcus Tavernier (Bournemouth) – 8.07 

 Marcus Tavernier scored his third league goal of the season in Bournemouth’s eventual 2-2 draw with Tottenham, getting the better of Guglielmo Vicario with one of three shots on Sunday. The Cherries winger was unfortunate not to add an assist having made three key passes, while an additional four tackles saw Tavernier return a WhoScored rating of 8.07. 

 

Ismaila Sarr (Crystal Palace) – 8.64 

 With a WhoScored rating of 8.64, Crystal Palace attacker Ismaila Sarr is the Premier League Player of the Week. Sarr scored his side’s only goal in their 1-0 win over Ipswich, netting with one of three shots, and won four aerial duels in the home success. The Senegal international also managed four clearances, two key passes and two dribbles in a fine showing. 

 

Luis Diaz (Liverpool) – 8.27 

 The second Liverpool player in the side, Luis Diaz registered his fourth assist of the season as the Reds claimed a 3-1 win over lowly Southampton, but he should have managed more having created six goalscoring opportunities. Diaz also completed three dribbles, and made one tackle and one interception to secure his spot in the Team of the Week with a WhoScored rating of 8.27.


Joao Pedro Brighton) – 7.71 

 The calmest man at the AMEX on Saturday afternoon, Joao Pedro was directly involved in a goal for the fourth game running having bagged a 97th minute penalty to secure a 2-1 win over Fulham. Pedro beat Bernd Leno with one of four efforts at the weekend to lead the charge in this XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.71.
