Former Inter striker Samuel Eto’o says he would like to see Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri return to the style of play he implemented at Empoli. “The coach I saw at Empoli is very different to the one of Chelsea and Juventus.”
Eto’o gave an interview to Sky Sport Italia, and talked about several coaches currently plying their trade in Serie A.
The former Cameroon international says he was a great admirer of Sarri’s Empoli side.
“In reality the coach that I saw at Empoli is very different to the one that I saw at Chelsea and Juventus,” Eto’o told Sky Sport Italia.
“I seen Empoli play, that was a team that played with personality, they played out from the back and the goalkeeper also used the ball.
“That was why it was beautiful. Today we don’t see coaches like Pep Guardiola making teams play, maybe you lose but when a team plays football, the fans have fun.
“Today I watch Juve and I don’t know, they have Ronaldo, one of the best of all time, or Paulo Dybala, who is another phenomenon, but I’d like to see the coach I saw at Empoli again.
“Yesterday I was watching Juve and I thought something was missing.”
Eto’o worked briefly with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini at Inter in the summer of 2011 before leaving for Anzhi Makhackala.
“My rapport was very good with everyone. He was the coach and he made decisions.
“You may or may not agree on some things as a footballer but it doesn’t change the fact that there are players of a certain level who must have an agreement with coaches, but I never had any problems.”
Eto’o was then asked about Sinisa Mihajlovic, who is battling against leukaemia.
“He is an incredible person, after having overcome this period he is doing brilliantly.
“He can recover because he is a champion. I think it if had happened to other people, it wouldn’t have been the same.
“All his advice in that period of time will always help me, above all they have all helped me.”
