Matthijs de Ligt was left covered in blood after sustaining a nasty head injury in Juventus' defeat to Lyon.
The defender tripped while going up for a head in the opposition box with his teammate Alex Sandro landing on him.
The 20-year-old took a boot and shinpad to the head and was forced to leave the field for treatment with blood pouring from his face.
He was also left with studmarks on his chest from where Sandro had landed.
To make matters worse for the Dutchman, his side conceded from a set-piece while he was getting treatment.
Lucas Tousart headed in from Houssem Aouar's cross to give Lyon the only goal of the game as they claimed a surprise win over the Italians.
The defender came back on to the field sporting a unique bandage and was able to complete the 90 minutes.
Fans reacted to de Ligt's injury with comparisons to Tyson Fury and Terry Butcher.
Writing on Twitter, @nicodegallo said: 'De Ligt (has) got more blood on him than Fury did all fight.'
Sports website Joe wrote: 'Meanwhile in the Juve game, Matthijs de Ligt is about to go full Terry Butcher.'
Another tweet suggested he was like something from a Quentin Tarantino film.
The defeat for Juve means they will have to win in Turin after failing to score an away goal.
Maurizio Sarri's side had struggled to defend set-pieces since they adopted zonal marking, a system defender Leonardo Bonucci has described as 'complicated'.

De Ligt made a professional mistake with that head injury. He should have slept on the filed . That would’ve allowed the medical team to treat him on the filed and he would have easily worked in back into the game . But instead he went out and he knows that kinda injury takes time to fix .

People saying Sarri out . That doesn’t stop the problem. You need to take a breath and really take a good look at this useless old Juventus midfield and old players. Seems you have all forgotten what Ajax did to Juventus last year. Pjanic, Ramsey, Rabiot, Higuain , Matuidi and Khedira all plays in the midfield and none of them is good . And you saying Sarri , Sarri. No top 9 apart from old man Higuain. Danilo was stupidly exchanged. I was expecting Juventus to make some moves in January yet stupid Paratici did nothing. This’s the reality. Juventus management has the biggest faults here .
