Fiorentina returned to winning ways on Monday evening after cruising past Genoa in their Italian top-flight clash.

Fiorentina - who have now overtaken Roma in the Serie A table - put six goals past their opposition.

The result came as a relief to Vincenzo Italiano - who had failed to pick up a win in Fiorentina's last three league outings.

Nevertheless, Fiorentina went into the game feeling confident - having just beaten Napoli 5-2 in the Coppa Italia last week.

The Viola built on that performance to dismantle Genoa. Vincenzo Italiano's side started well and looked calm when in possession.

It didn't take long before the home side launched their first dangerous attack. The threat lead to a clumsy foul on Riccardo Saponara.

As a result, Fiorentina were awarded a penalty - which Arsenal target Dusan Vlahovic squandered.

Nevertheless, Alvaro Odriozola broke the deadlock just five minutes later to make it 1-0 to Fiorentina.

Vincenzo Italiano's side extended their lead in the 34th minute, thanks to Giacomo Bonaventura.

The midfielder latched onto the ball and buried it into the net after it rebounded off Salvatore Sirigu's gloves.

Cristiano Biraghi went on to make it 3-0 before the half-time break, while Vlahovic finally found the back of the net in the second half.

As a result, Vlahovic has become just the second Fiorentina player to have scored in seven Serie A successive appearances.

Biraghi went on to score his second goal of the game and extend Fiorentina's lead to 5-0. His strike came from another impressive free-kick.

Lucas Torreira provided the final nail in the coffin for Genoa with their sixth goal in the 77th minute.

Genoa had hoped to pick up a consolation goal when VAR checked for a possible penalty in the final few minutes of the game.

However, they were denied of a spot-kick and the game ended 6-0. As a result, Fiorentina moved about Roma in the Serie A standings.
