Gabriel 'Gabigol' Barbosa has shared his desire to remain with Flamengo past the expiration of his loan deal with them.
“It will be special for me at the Maracana. It may be my last, I do not know yet. I am very excited about this game. I have not thought about my future yet. All I am thinking about are the next two games and the Club World Cup,” he said at a press conference.
“Everyone has dreams that they wish to achieve and I am doing that at Flamengo. Everything went perfectly for me. God willing, I will be here again next season.”
He was then asked if he considers himself to be a Flamengo icon given his exploits this season: “I think it is difficult to call myself an idol.”
The 23-year-old has scored 42 goals in 54 appearances whilst out on loan at the Rio de Janeiro club and talks between the two clubs over a permanent deal are well underway.
