Inter defender Diego Godin revealed some facts about himself and his private life in an interview posted by Inter on their official website yesterday.

First, the former Atletico Madrid defender commented on his history with football and other sports.

“I started playing when I was five and football was my first sport. Until I was 15, I also played other sports, swimming, basketball, volleyball and athletics. All disciplines that helped me to grow physically and in coordination.”

The 34-year-old Uruguayan veteran then spoke about the different positions he's played before finding his home as a central defender.

“I started as a forward, then I moved to midfield and finally found my home in the defense. The defender, like the goalkeeper, sees the whole pitch and has a big responsibility, he has to transmit security.”

Godin highlighted the importance of earning experience.

“It's not something you start with, you conquer it by living the situation. I always say, either you win or you learn.”

The Inter defender then discussed the goals he's scored in his career and his mindset.

“I scored most of the goals with my head. My main job is to defend, then there's also the instinct that leads me to push myself into the opponent's area on set pieces. I always go to their box and in the end, I want to win, in a more or less simple way.”

Finally, Godin spoke about the bond a player has with the fans and how important that bond is.

“The energy that is created between team, coach, club and fans is fundamental, it is important that we all go in the same direction and that the energy is positive. The environment is fundamental, it's the people who make a club great.”

The 34-year-old Uruguayan defender, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2022, has made 25 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1901 minutes. In that time, he's provided one assist and helped the Nerazzurri keep seven clean sheets.
