Pep Guardiola praised the importance of Sergio Aguero rediscovering his goalscoring touch in Manchester City's 3-0 victory over Fulham.

City's all-time record goalscorer found the net for the first time in 417 days as he converted a second-half penalty at Craven Cottage.

Aguero, whose last goal came in January 2020, completed the full 90 minutes in an added boost for Guardiola and his title-chasing side.

'Of course, if everyone wants to jump inside the bus they are more than welcome,' Pep said.

'Of course it's so important his goal and he played 90 minutes for the first time in a long time, he moved really well against a tough, tough side.

'They followed him almost man-to-man when he dropped. It was not easy, but we were patient and especially solid in behind, defending really well, not conceding.'

City were made to work hard during the first half against the resurgent Cottagers, but three costly errors in first 15 minutes of the second period proved decisive.

Guardiola hailed his players for retaining their discipline after a frustrating opening 45 minutes.

'There are moments when we have to run but when we cannot run we have to keep the ball,' he explained.

'Football is not just counter-attack or just keep the ball. The actions allow you to do what you have to do in every moment.

'As a team you have to know exactly what to do. In football, the right thing is to take the right decisions and let the game of football itself dictate what we have to do.'
