Handanovic reveals he 'didn't like Onana's behaviour' after he signed for Inter

Former Inter Milan star Samir Handanovic has criticised the behaviour of Man United star Andre Onana after the goalkeeper had signed for the Italian giants back in 2022.

Onana spent one year at Inter Milan before joining Man United in a £47m move this summer.

The Cameroon international had spent the first eight Serie A matches on the bench, before eventually displacing veteran goalkeeper Handanovic as Inter's first choice shot-stopper.

Handanovic, who has now announced his retirement, told the Gazzetta Dello Sport that he was unimpressed by Onana's behaviour when the goalkeeper had been left out of the team.

'When I said I was leaving, Onana thanked me,' Handanovic said.

'I liked those words, but not his behaviour in the first two months at Inter, when he didn't play because [Simone] Inzaghi confirmed me as the starting goalkeeper.

'Then he told the truth, and it must be added that I was always consistent with him and I also helped him.'

Onana has come under fire from Jamie Carragher over his conduct during a pre-season match for Man United.

Carragher has claimed Onana deliberately tried to endear himself to Red Devils supporters by 'disgracefully' yelling at Harry Maguire during United's 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund in July.

The former Liverpool defender claimed Onana's crticism was 'over the top' and only added to the scrutiny on Maguire.

'I’m well aware of Onana being demonstrative at all his clubs, and I like the fact he communicates,' tweeted Carragher.

'But to carry on like that in a pre season game when you’ve been at the club two mins, to the club captain, was way over the top.

'Any player worth their salt (Keane, Vidic, Rio, Stam…and me!) would have told him where to go & to get back in his goal.

'I felt he was trying far too hard to show the fans what he was about. The point was Maguire is that broken he didn’t say anything back. When he was well within his rights to do so.'

Maguire had the Man United captaincy stripped from him during the summer with manager Erik ten Hag instead handing the armband to Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

The defender has been thrust further into the spotlight after scoring an own goal in England's midweek win over Scotland where opposition supporters mockingly cheered.

Maguire's mother hit out at critics in an emotional social media post afterwards.
