Harvey Elliott's father beams with pride following goal against Cardiff

Harvey Elliott's dad was captured beaming with pride after watching his son make a goal scoring return from injury in Liverpool's 3-1 win against Cardiff City.

Elliott, 18, has been sidelined since September after sustaining a long-term ankle injury against Leeds at Elland Road, in a huge setback having made a bright start to the campaign.

Yet a swift recovery saw the former Fulham starlet named in Jurgen Klopp's matchday squad for the FA Cup fourth-round tie at Anfield.

The German introduced the midfielder from the bench in the 56th minute, following Diogo Jota's opener, and Elliott picked up from where he left off earlier in the season, displaying some classy touches in and around the Bluesbirds' box.

Takumi Minamino doubled the Reds' advantage in the 68th minute, latching onto a cutback from new signing Luis Diaz, before Elliott rounded off a dream return with a classy finish, beating the keeper with a strike into the bottom right corner.

And Elliott's father, Scott, was unable to contain his joy after seeing his son's strike, with footage capturing with his hands over his face, before clapping and waving to the Englishman as he returned to the halfway line.

After the match, Elliott said his goal was 'a moment that myself and my family will remember', thanking his parents for their support, as well as the tireless work of a Liverpool physio.

'It is hard to put into words at the moment,' he told ITV Sport. 'This is what I am in the team to do, to score and assist, thankfully it has come today in front of the fans after having a long time out and in the end it’s my job at the end of the day so I’ve just got to keep doing it. It’s a moment that myself and my family will remember.

'The list goes on to be honest, but one man in particular was Joe Lewis, a physio at Liverpool, he got me back strong in the end.

'Shout out to my family and friends, mum and dad in particular. Even the fans with the support and love, I’m back now and hopefully all that is behind me.'

Manchester United legend Roy Keane insisted that there is always a high level of stress among a player's family and friends when the player is injured.

'[There are] doubts, it is stressful, you worry whether you can get back to the level you can. He has come back so quickly, of course he has got the best medical care, surgeons. He mentions the physio there, early starts, late finishes, but that’s what you need.

'Even for a player’s family, you don’t imagine the stress they go through.'
