Midfield star Henrikh Mkhitaryan is set to join Inter Milan on a free transfer after rejecting Roma's final contract extension offer, according to reports.
The 33-year-old initially joined Roma on loan from Arsenal in September 2019 before signing for free a year later.
And now it seems the Italian club are set to lose Mkhitaryan in the same way they won him, as he reportedly eyes an exit as a free agent.
According to Football Italia, Roma enhanced their bid to a salary worth in the region of €4.2m per year before add-ons and bonuses but gave Mkhitaryan a mere 24 hours in which to make his decision.
Numerous sources in Italy, including Sky Sport Italia and Gazzetta dello Sport, now claim that the Armenian has informed Roma that he will not extend his contract.
His five goals and nine assists in all competitions helped steer the Giallorossi to Europa Conference League triumph last month and Inter are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring him to the San Siro.
Despite winning a first European trophy in their history, Roma only managed to secure Europa League qualification next season, whilst Inter can offer the attractive prospect of Champions League football to Mkhitaryan.
The midfielder has not featured in the Champions League since 2017/18, making four appearances for Jose Mourinho's Manchester United.
A swoop for Mkhitaryan would strengthen Inter's title surge next season, having just missed out on the Serie A trophy by two points to rivals AC Milan last month.

the truth is Miki has passed his years. What did Dzeko win with Inter at UCL, Serie A and League Cup?

That’s untrue because we have done a lot of exchange deals over the past years. Let me remind of some of the oldies but goldies we have gotten from you and in exchange, who we gave you. First of all, you gave us Nainggolan but to your credit he didn’t excel at Inter and he wasn’t really given a chance by Spaletti and Conte particularly Conte who didn’t like his lifestyle of the smoking/ drinking but also his attitude. We then got Kolarov who has just been a bench warmer every game and he should give that number 11 jersey to someone else but then I also don’t mind it because Man City set the trend for the LB’s to wear it and because I like Zinchenko, I can’t really hate Kolarov (if that makes sense lol). Anyways we move on to Dzeko and this was a controversial transfer when he signed but he has been good for us and I don’t believe you guys hate him like the Florentina-Vlahovic situation. Now Mhki is coming in which is again a transfer that came out of the blue but I believe this will somehow work. We move onto Roma’s transfer from Inter and bro don’t tell me you forgot that we were the ones that gave you Zaniolo. You saw the talent that he has and we didn’t. Good player but does get injured a lot but he will only become better should he stay fit. We gave you Davide Santon and Juan Jesus but they are bit part players. I just hope next summer Inter doesn’t get El Shaarawy or Mancini but I wouldn’t even be surprised at that point lol I just hope they don’t happen😂.
