It was the ideal debut for Ernesto Torregrossa, who came off the bench to win it for Sampdoria along with a cheeky Antonio Candreva penalty, but Rodrigo De Paul almost got the goal of the season.
The Friulani had the better of the first half and nearly scored a stunner when De Paul let loose from 25 metres out, denied only by the frame of the goal.
De Paul did eventually break the deadlock following a chaotic three-shot move, but Samp got back into it when Candreva converted a Panenka-style penalty.
Ex-Brescia striker Torregrossa only arrived a couple of days ago, but made an immediate impact with his towering header on Tommaso Augello’s cross to complete the comeback.
