Higuain's father says it's 'impossible' his son will join River Plate

Gonzalo Higuain's father has said that his son will not be making a sensational return to River Plate, calling a move "impossible" for now.

The Juventus striker has been linked recently with a move to River, where he began his professional career and starred as a teenager in 2005 and 2006.

However, speaking to Goal, Jorge Higuain ruled out the possibility of his son returning to his homeland in the near future.

"It is impossible for now," Jorge said. "Gonzalo has a contract that still has this year and next year.

Though he did not rule out a move in the future, Jorge concluded: "At the moment he cannot return to River."

After a difficult 2018-19 campaign that saw him take in loan spells at AC Milan and Chelsea, Higuain returned to Juventus ahead of the current season.

Though he was not expected to factor much, the 32-year-old has instead managed to score eight goals in all competitions, starting 22 of his 33 appearances in all competitions.

Higuain has spoken in the past about his desire to eventually return to River.

"I don't close any doors," Higuain said in an interview with Fox Sports last year. “The future is uncertain. I have a two-year contract here and then we'll see.

“I'm always tied to River, the players and the fans. To tell the truth, I don't know what will happen. But at the moment I want to enjoy Juve.”

Higuain left River in 2007 to join Real Madrid, where he spent seven seasons and won La Liga three times.
