Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund has opened up on his love for Cristiano Ronaldo as he reveals how he admires him.
The Denmark international, who left Atalanta to join Man United two summers ago, is now back in Serie A, signing with Napoli on loan after being pushed out by manager Ruben Amorim.
Earlier this season, Hojlund came off the bench to net the winning goal in the first leg of Denmark’s UEFA Nations League tie and pulled off the iconic Ronaldo celebration.
He said he meant no disrespect after the game, stating: “It's for my idol. It's not like I'm mocking him or anything. I've just always said that he has a lot of importance to me and my football career.”
Now, speaking with La Repubblica he reveals that he looks up to Ronaldo and uses his career as determination:
"In my career, I've never felt like the most talented player in the group, even though you have to be a top-notch striker to play for United or Napoli.
“But I've always had to work harder than others, and I'm aware of that. That's why Cristiano is my idol: he always wants to improve and works hard to become better."
"In my opinion, the best players in the world are Cristiano Ronaldo, Haaland, (Robert) Lewandowski, and Gyokeres. In Serie A, I'd choose (Romelu) Lukaku, (Dusan) Vlahovic, Lautaro Martinez, and then there's me, Rasmus."
Hojlund scored on his debut in a 3-1 victory over Fiorentina and is adapting well in Italy alongside former United star Scott McTominay as they enjoy life away from the Premier League whilst fighting for the league title.
