Hottest Capocannoniere race in 60 years

The Capocannoniere race is suddenly tighter than ever, as Cristiano Ronaldo has 28 goals and Ciro Immobile 29, the most prolific battle since the 1950s.

Lazio striker Immobile had seemingly secured the title of Serie A top scorer with an astonishing run, but like his team, he too has stalled since the restart.

He had 25 goals in his first 22 games this season, but was suspended against Milan and has fired blanks in the last two fixtures as well.

It means Immobile had just two goals in his last six appearances.

On the other hand, Ronaldo is finding his form at the tail end of the campaign and now has 28 goals in 28 Serie A appearances.

The Juventus hitman failed to find the net only once in his last 18 games, a 2-0 victory over Inter where he provided the assist, scoring 23 goals in that time.

It's worth noting that both these hitmen have converted 11 penalties in Serie A this season, so their goals from open play and free kicks are perfectly even.

There haven’t been two different forwards with at least 28 goals in the opening 32 Serie A rounds since the 1950s.

It was achieved by Istvan Nyers of Inter and Milan’s Gunnar Nordahl in 1950-51, then by Inter star Antonio Valentin Angelillo and Jose Altafini of Milan in 1958-59.
