Inter Milan, the club of Lautaro Martínez, has its sights set on the Argentine national team goalkeeper to replace Sommer in 2026. Aston Villa is willing to listen to offers.

After his failed attempt to join Manchester United, a move he hoped for until the very last minute of the last transfer window, Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez is once again on the radar of another European giant. This time, the interested party is Inter Milan, who are looking for a replacement for Yann Sommer amidst doubts about his future beyond 2026 and dream of competing again in the Champions League.

According to Football Insider, Lautaro Martínez's Nerazzurri have begun an in-depth analysis of their goalkeeping situation, a position that could see significant changes in the coming months. While the Swiss starter has been performing at a high level and has proven himself a reliable presence with reflex saves for the past two seasons, his contract expires next July and there has been no progress toward renewing it.

To avoid a headache should Sommer decide to leave, the coaching staff, led by Cristian Chivu, have already set their sights on the Argentine national team hero, his ideal replacement. With his leadership, experience, and personality, Dibu fits the profile sought by the Italian club to maintain competitiveness in all competitions.

At Aston Villa, he is an undisputed starter (11 matches this season, four clean sheets, and nine goals conceded between the Premier League and the Europa League), although both his manager, Unai Emery, and the club's management are aware that a substantial offer could open the door to negotiations.

This isn't the first time Inter has targeted the World Cup and two-time Copa América champion. In mid-2023, still riding high on the glory of Qatar, they were also interested and offered €15 million, an offer deemed insufficient in Birmingham. In the last transfer window, they valued him at £40 million (approximately $54,960,000).

Inter, despite their poor performance in the Club World Cup (they were eliminated by Fluminense), are currently enjoying a very positive run: they are leading Serie A alongside Roma, are top of their Champions League group after winning all four matches (Ajax, Slavia Prague, Royale Union SG and Kairat Almaty) and are awaiting Venezia in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup.
