The World cup is only a few days away, and the most extraordinary sports event is the hottest topic in the world.
All the best players in the world will be looking to make a statement in Qatar and etch their names in football history.
Similarly, football fans will stay glued to their TV and devices browsing through Bitcoin blackjack at Ignition Casino and religiously following the matches.
Football fans everywhere have had their ears close to the ground for months waiting for the moment that countries will announce their team selection for the World Cup.
Most teams have announced by now, so it’s time to move on to the next best thing — Nerazzurri superstars at the winter World Cup.
Here are some of Inter’s players who are likely going to play important roles for their countries at the world cup;
Lautaro Martinez
After facing selection disappointment in Russia 2018, Martinez has become a vital part of the Argentine National team. Following his selection in the 2019 Copa America, Martinez has been a constant in the National team.
He has consistently proven himself in performance and stats. He had seven goals and three assists in the World Cup qualifiers.
Martinez’s role in Argentina is complicated due to the style of play of Argentina. He is used to playing in a similar system at Inter.
Romelu Lukaku
Despite being injured for the better part of the season, Lukaku will still play a role in the Belgian squad. Lukaku is currently suffering from a thigh-muscle injury that has kept him away from the team for many weeks.
He is part of the Belgian golden generation of football, ranked number 1 for four years in a row.
Lukaku has always been an essential member of the squad, and he holds the record for the highest number of goals by a Red Devil with 64 goals.
Lukaku might not be what he used to be, but he would look to prove himself again at the world cup.
Denzel Dumfries
Inter’s dutch wingback is easily one of the most recognizable faces in Dutch football. Since making his debut for the Oranje in 2018, Dumfries has been a constant in the Dutch National team.
His performances against England in the Nations League final and the subsequent competitions made him the favorite right full-back on the National team.
Dumfries is frequently criticized for his inconsistent performance, but his dedication and commitment are unwavering.
Andre Onana
Onana is the new kid in Inter but a veteran in the Cameroonian National team. Onana has been in the Cameroonian squad since 2016 with 32 appearances.
Cameroon made it to the World cup after winning Algeria in a dramatic 2-1playoffs game (2-2 aggregate) with Andre Onana in goal.
Onana is as good as they come, but with teams like Brazil, Switzerland, and Serbia to contend with in the group stage, he’ll have to be at the top of his game.
Joaquin Correa
Correa is currently 28 years old, yet he has made just 18 appearances for his country Argentina. During his five-year spell in the National team, he had been under the shadow of elite strikers like Higuain and Paulo Dybala.
However, this might be Correa’s year. He has had an impressive spell of games in the Inter shirt and has proven that he has some qualities. The odds are he will not start for Argentina, but he could be an exciting prospect off the bench.
Robin Gosens Misses Out
Gosens is simply a maverick, and the world cup would have been the ideal place for him to shine. At 26 years old, Gosens received his first call-up and helped Germany to a good Euro 2020 run but didn’t win the competition.
Gosens won the man-of-the-match in the quarter-final match against Portugal.
Despite all that, almost-policeman Robin Gosens has been left out of the German squad by Hansi Flick. That surprised many football lovers, including the German national himself.
Gosens says he’ll use the time off to establish himself at Inter. Sounds like an excellent silver lining.
Other Inter players who would likely be at the world cup include Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan De Vrij.
Sadly, the Italian players will have to watch from home or the stands after Italy’s disappointing failure to qualify.
