Inter 'eye Conte and Modric' as Marotta plots overhaul at San Siro

After the appointment of Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta, Inter Milan now want 'Antonio Conte, Luka Modric and Nicolo Barella to join the club'.

The trio are top targets for the Serie A side with 2018 Ballon d'Or winner Modric the top target to galvanise an ailing midfield.

On the front page of Friday's Corriere dello Sport, the story highlights a desire from Marotta 'to bring this club back to the top' having fallen behind runaway leaders Juventus.

Modric, now 33, has been an overwhelming success since swapping Tottenham in north London for the glitz and glamour of Real Madrid in 2012.

Having won three straight Champions League titles, the Croatian may look to follow the example of Cristiano Ronaldo who swapped Madrid for Juventus in the summer.

The report suggests that should Modric remain committed in Spain, his German team-mate Toni Kroos remains an alternative option.

Given Inter were eliminated from the Champions League on Tuesday night - drawing at home with PSV when a win would have taken them through - pressure is believed to be building on manager Luciano Spalletti.

And with Conte, who has been out of work since leaving Chelsea, having previously worked with Marotta at Juventus, the links to the Inter job were unavoidable following the CEO's change of clubs.

The other name in the story is talented Italian youngster Barella who is currently impressing at Cagliari.

Both Tottenham and Chelsea have been reported to hold an interest in the 21-year-old with his value sky-rocketing with every performance.

Marotta, who left Juventus at the end of October, was confirmed as the new CEO at Inter on Thursday through the club's official twitter account.

'I am happy and proud to be beginning a new professional challenge at a prestigious club such as Inter,' said Marotta.

'President Steven Zhang has an ambitious project and I am looking forward to becoming an active part of that.'
