Inter to activate Pellegrini’s €30m clause after Barella snub

Inter are threatening to activate Lorenzo Pellegrini’s €30m release clause if Roma outbid them for Cagliari midfielder Nicolò Barella.

According to multiple sources including the Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri were furious that Roma intercepted talks for Barella with a new offer.

That proposal, €35m plus Gregoire Defrel, was accepted by Cagliari, unlike the options put forward by Inter over the last few weeks.

Barella has his heart set on Inter, but if the two clubs cannot agree terms, he may well accept a move to the Stadio Olimpico instead.

With this in mind, it’s reported the San Siro giants have laid out a plan that would either block Roma or punish them for snatching Barella out from under their noses.

Lorenzo Pellegrini has a €30m release clause in his contract and, if Inter don’t get first choice Barella, they’ll snatch the Italy international away from Roma instead.

Pellegrini just turned 23 last week and has also been linked with Arsenal, Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.

He made 33 appearances for the Giallorossi this season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists.
